The locomotive is battery operated (six C batteries included) and controlled by a battery-operated RC remote controller (two AA batteries included) that features forward and reverse driving options, as well as buttons for sounding the train whistle and ringing the bell.

Train cars are connected by simple knuckle couplers and fit securely on the rails of the plastic track pieces. The track sections can be snapped together, end to end, to form either a circular track or large oval track measuring 55 by 72 inches. The box and packaging containing the train set can be used as a convenient and secure way to store the train set when not in use.
